Biofilm Research

Biofilms are comprised of dense, highly hydrated clusters of microbial cells that are embedded with and surrounded by an extracellular matrix of polymeric substances, such as exopolysaccharides (EPS).

To further understand biofilm matrix assembly, microbial interactions and microenvironmental heterogeneity, and characterize biophysical properties of bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation, we combine genetics, biochemical, and biophysical methods.

Research opportunity

We alwasy seek highly motivated researchers who enjoy working in a team while concomitantly desiring to pursue their own ideas in a supportive environment. Desired expertise includes, but not limited to, mathematical modeling, confocal microscopy, biophysics, evolutionary biology, and molecular genetics in the context of biofilm research.

Anyone with backgrounds in any of these or related areas is welcome to apply for joining the lab.

Interested candidates should write by e-mail to discuss potential positions and funding opportunities.
